Internal distribution among team members is the Team Representative's sole responsibility; Chaos Tournaments is not responsible for internal disputes. Teams are encouraged to document a prize-split agreement in advance.

6.5 Tax Documentation Requirements

6.5.1 — United States Recipients

All US-based team representatives or individual players receiving tournament payouts must submit a completed IRS Form W-9 prior to disbursement, sent via the secure link provided to the email on file. Cumulative winnings are tracked per calendar year (January 1–December 31) by taxpayer ID. Any recipient whose total winnings from the tournament organization reach $600 or more within a calendar year will receive an IRS Form 1099-NEC by January 31 of the following year, as required by law. Payments to incorporated entities (C-corp/S-corp) are generally exempt from 1099-NEC reporting but still require a W-9 on file to confirm entity status. The tournament organization maintains a running total of winnings per payee, keyed to their tax form on file, for the purpose of triggering required tax reporting

6.5.2 International Recipients

All non-US team representatives or individual players receiving tournament payouts must submit the applicable IRS tax form prior to disbursement, sent via the secure link provided to the email on file:

  • Form W-8BEN for foreign individuals
  • Form W-8BEN-E for foreign entities/teams

These forms certify foreign status and may allow for reduced withholding under an applicable tax treaty. International recipients will receive IRS Form 1042-S reporting US-source income, regardless of payout amount, in place of a 1099-NEC.

6.5.3 Submission Deadline

Required tax documentation must be submitted within 14 calendar days of prize notification, or the prize is forfeited absent a written extension.

6.5.4 Tax Responsibility

Winners are solely responsible for all applicable taxes on winnings. Chaos Tournaments LLC does not provide tax advice and will issue a 1099-NEC (or equivalent) to applicable U.S. winners as required by law.

6.6 Payment Process via Stripe

After tax documentation is confirmed, the Team Representative receives a secure Stripe payment link via the email on file and must complete the Stripe process within 7 calendar days, or the prize may be forfeited absent a written extension. Chaos Tournaments LLC is not responsible for delays caused by Stripe, banking processing times, or incorrect payment information.

6.7 Payment Timeline

Subject to 6.5 and 6.6, payments are initiated within 30 calendar days of the event's conclusion.

6.8 Prize Forfeiture

Prizes are forfeited for missing the 14-day tax documentation window, missing the 7-day Stripe window, an active prize forfeiture sanction, or eligibility violations affecting placement. Forfeited prizes are retained by Chaos Tournaments LLC and may be redistributed at its discretion.

6.9 Disputes Regarding Prize Payment

Disputes must be submitted in writing via Discord within 30 days of the scheduled payment date. Disputes submitted after this window will not be considered.
